Press release: Lord Mancroft
Date: 23 October 2019
Leading peer to chair ground-breaking new British medical cannabis company
The politician who is the UK’s most knowledgeable parliamentarian on the subject of drug use has become the Chairman of Avida Global, one of the world’s most exciting and innovative medical cannabis producers.
Lord Benjamin Mancroft has been a member of the House of Lords for more than 30 years. He has been a consistent and influential advocate for legalisation and has significant knowledge of drug treatments.
“I am delighted to be working with Avida Global,” he said. “It’s a company that is going about medical cannabis production in a very controlled, careful, business-like and scientific manner. That’s the way it should be done. The team are very focussed, thoughtful and alert to the issues.”
“It is also a business with potential for huge growth. I like its philosophy and the people I will be working with. In addition, I have spent most of my life working in regulated businesses. I’m very comfortable in that environment and am familiar with the challenges.”
Lord Mancroft continued: “Cannabis is a complex plant with lots of different properties. You need to understand the pharmacology and biology along with what you are producing and for what purpose.
“I am quite sure that over a short time, it will become fully legal, firstly for medicinal use and then after that for recreational use, within a properly regulated and controlled market.”
“We are now seeing the emergence of new demand and we know a lot more about cannabis than we used to. It is the best solution for tackling the completely inappropriate overprescribing of opioids for chronic pain.”
Avida Global’s Chief Executive Officer, David Kirby, commented: “We are incredibly pleased to have Lord Mancroft on board as our Chairman to help guide and build the company. His appointment demonstrates our integrity and professionalism and will help keep us focused.
“We are striving to create a global and robust business, working to the highest ethical standards. We will deliver to the highest quality as medical cannabis production develops and matures into a professional and respected industry and product.
“Those companies maintaining credibility, integrity and quality will be the long-term winners, and we intend to be among them.”
